Matt Arneson – October 14, 2019

EnergyPrint turns 10 years old this month and, as we pass around the birthday cake here at the office, I’ve taken some time to be reflective. It is fulfilling to be a part of the global push to maximize building efficiency – a push that is generating business results, growing wealth, and improving productivity and quality of life.

The world has absolutely embraced the benefit of greater building efficiency. In 2018, the worldwide building efficiency industry advanced to $298.5 billion dollars in revenue, a staggering 253% increase over 2011.  Demand for energy efficiency continues to grow. Increasingly, customers care about the sustainability profiles of the businesses they engage with.

But where do you begin? If you’re a property manager or building owner, how do you identify the best opportunity to improve? And how do you prove that the solution you selected actually worked?

A great place to start is with utility bills. It’s not rocket science. Or, at least, it shouldn’t be. It doesn’t require an advanced degree to get what you need from utility bills – but there are barriers. I have seen firsthand the difficulties involved in using utility bills. For one, utility companies offer no bill industry standards, as similar costs are often labelled differently across utilities or buried in summary line items that are difficult to decipher. Then there are the added elements to the bill that complicate the picture – rate structures, services components, demand, tariffs and more. At the end of the day, comparing apples to apples is an involved endeavor. Even acquiring the bills themselves is no easy task. Everyone from accounting and facilities management to executives all have their uses for these bills, but rarely do they get to everyone who needs them.

That’s where we come in. Over the past 10 years, EnergyPrint has built a reputation in making it easier to capture, track and benchmark data derived from utility bills – data that has helped our partners identify hundreds of opportunities to increase energy efficiency and decrease their expenses. I’m proud of what we’ve been able to accomplish, but there is still so much to do.

My vision for EnergyPrint is to engage our clients to make the “rocket science” of utility bills feel easy and proactively point them toward the best opportunities to solve the challenges they are facing. We will never be done with our products or solutions – there is still so much to accomplish and value to add to truly be the best place to start your journey toward greater building efficiency. I like coming to work every day knowing that there are opportunities to strive for. Let’s do this!

This is where you come in. Just as we have over the last ten years, we want to start the next ten years with you – our valued partners and clients.
