The City of Chicago requires building owners to benchmark their whole-building energy use, and report to the City on an annual basis. The Chicago Energy Benchmarking ordinance applies to all existing municipal, commercial, and residential buildings 50,000 square feet and larger. Last year’s compliance deadline was June 1, 2019.

Chicago adopted its Energy Benchmarking ordinance in 2013 to raise awareness of energy performance through information and transparency, with the goal of unlocking energy and cost savings opportunities for both businesses and residents.

Community Specialists, a property management firm in Chicago, is no stranger to the city’s benchmarking policy.  Since their focus concentrates exclusively on the management of high quality condominium associations, they are a professional management team experienced with large multi-family facilities. Given they manage large buildings in Chicago, they needed a partner who could help them collect and submit the utility bill and ENERGY STAR information needed to report on time.

“We’ve used a variety of providers to do our benchmarking and Chicago energy ordinance submission, and EnergyPrint has been the best at having submissions completed on time without any issues.”

The EnergyPrint difference

They began working with EnergyPrint in 2016 to help them with compliance. Prior to working with EnergyPrint, Community Specialists tried several other benchmarking providers to assist them, but found the submission process to be less intuitive and  unreliable. They had no single customer service contact looking out for the best interests of all their properties and property managers. Additionally, other providers failed to complete some certifications on time—causing extra work and time for Community Specialists.

Community Specialists values EnergyPrint’s benchmarking solution for providing consistent and reliable service that not only takes the data submission process completely off their plate, but also peace of mind knowing their buildings will meet compliance requirements on time with quality. EnergyPrint also provides Community Specialists with a dedicated Customer Success Manager to serve as the company’s main point of contact for Chicago benchmarking compliance, as well as onboarding buildings and Utility Dashboard support.

With EnergyPrint, there are no complaints from property managers, plus a high degree of trust. And if there are questions, they can call their designated representative who is always responsive and supportive.

EnergyPrint’s expert staff assists hundreds of clients each year with benchmarking ordinances in cities across the U.S. Our process syncs each building’s energy consumption data with ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager and automatically updates it with new utility data each month. Our expert staff will ensure your building’s data meets all compliance requirements for your city’s specific ordinance and deadline.

"EnergyPrint provides me a real person to call when we need something. Having a single point of contact to all of our properties is a great asset to Community Specialists.”
